| These are all tracks that I've made in the last few months on my new digital 12 track (Korg D1200). | ||
| Digging Up Bones **** - A dark acoustic song about grave robbing for drug money (backed-up by the mono-synth) | Boring Techno ** - I had plans to add more tracks to this, but gave up, cuz I just wasn't feeling it. | Glenn & Steve Jam * - The tunes aren't that bad, but the weak sound and the 10min length make it a pass. See the Benton section for better jams. |
| PornStar Techno **** - I nicked that name from my friend Sean. Good tune with heavy drums and synths. It goes on about 4 minutes too long, though. | Weezer Rock *** - Not a bad tune for a night's work.. No vocals, unfortunately. | 'Tire Fires' version 1, version 2, version 3 * - Kind of interesting if you want to hear me try and write a tune. Maybe I'll do a better version of it one day. |
| Random Rage Techno * - A pretty psycho tune. Not for the faint hearted. Again, another case of my techno tracks going on too long. | Techno Epic ***** - I'll drop a five star here just because it was the first tune I made with my new set up, and relatively speaking, it was the best techno song at the time | |
New Acoustic Album recordings (WIPs)
For Sleep and Somnabulists
These are the works in progress for my Acoustic album which I hope to finish before the end of the year (2006). There are no vocals on these tracks except for maybe one or two.. I think I'm gonna call the Album "For Sleep and Somnabulists". I post them here primarily for archival purposes. It'll be fun to compare them to the finished tunes once the album is done. Lots of these tracks have been around for a while.. I'm hoping to get them done so I can start writing new tunes rather than dwelling on these. The rating are based on the relative quality of the acoustic performance, or whatever, I'm not really sure to be honest. |
Track One ** - This is probably the oldest one on the album.. I had actually wanted to make this into one of the original Ohms tunes, but never got around to finishing it. |
Track Two *** - I've always been partial to this simple little tune. Might be called 'Designed by Man'. |
Track Three *** - One of my favourite Frank Black tunes, and the only cover on the album, 'Don't Clip Your Wings'. |
Track Four **** - A classic Steve acoustic song. It'll be called 'Above the Dragonflies'. |
Track Five **** - One of the few rockers on the album. 'I feel like shit today'. |
Track Six *** - Great tune, but I screwed up on the bridge thingy. Gonna have re-record that part of it. 'Sing for the Ocean' |
Track Seven ***** - Probably my favorite of all the tunes.. You sir, you get five stars! It'll probably be called 'Sacred Things'. |
Track Eight *** - 'Babylon'. A tune for - and from -Korea. The original demo version is in the old songs section. |
Track Nine **** - I tried doing this bastard of a song in one take because there are so many section and time changes. It has vocals. 'Feel so Alive'. |
Track Ten *** - Another classic tune. I still have to write the words for it. |
Track Eleven *** - 'Digging up Bones'. There is a techno-y version of this track in the new section of the site. For some reason, even though it's a good track, I think it doesn't really fit with the rest of the album. |
Track Twelve **** - The sad instrumental. I guess this one could be considered as close to the final version. |
Track Thirteen ** - Little ditty called 'Everyday'. It'll be fun adding mandolin to this track. |
Track Fourteen ****- People say I'm alright at doing the finger picking thing. Here is an example. 'Live in Fear, Again'. |
Track Fifteen ** - I already have a decent version of this song. I'm not sure why, but this track can get on my nerves. 'Say you are my girl'. Wow, never really noticed it before, but that title is a little creepy. |
Track Sixteen ** - For some reason the recording quality is a lot weaker on this one. 'Perseverance'. |

THE OHMS
Steve Holub, Darren Holub, Glenn Holub
Featuring Paul Matlosz on Lead Guitar
- recordings, demos, jams, etc.. It's all here! -
| The Ohms Demo (2002) | The Ohms - The One Contender EP (2004) | The Ohms Live and Out of Tune at the Kathedral (2003) |
| Wherever you go... *** - First song off out first demo. Ohms Demo 01 | Teachers & Preachers ** - A great rocking song - too bad the editing got mixed up and this is the wrong version. Oh well. Ohms EP 01 | Teachers & Preachers Live at the Kathedral * - This was a brutal show in Toronto. We were all too drunk to properly tune our guitars, again. Shitty show, but here it is. |
| View from the Hill ** - This song goes back to when Paul and I used to play with Erin and Sim. It's about BM and Guelph. Ohms Demo 02 | JKG ***** - Do I hear hit single? Yes, I do! This song's about the late John Kenneth Galbraith. Check out Glenn's bad ass bass solo. Ohms EP 02 | Stratocaster Live at the Kathedral * - Man, this is painful to listen to.. |
| MATH **** - This one rocks ass. Glenn's favourite. Ohms Demo 03 | The One Contender **** - This is our epic tune. Probably the shortest epic of all time. Ohms EP 03 | In the News and Hemispheres Live at the Kathedral ** - At least Glenn's banter is somewhat entertaining. |
| Stratocaster *** - Lots of stuff going on in this tune. Try to find Paul's guitar in the mix cuz he has some stellar riffs. Ohms Demo 04 | In the News **** - This could have been another single, in theory. We have a few versions of this one. Ohms EP 04 | JKG Live at the Kathedral** - How did we get so out of tune? How was it not fixed on the spot? I dunno.. |
| Interlude *** - Acoustic interlude with sample of Glenn and I talking in the background. The ladies seem to love this track. Ohms Demo 05 | Stratocaster *** - We tried to redo this one, but I like the first go at it better, to be honest. Ohms EP 05 | Revolution Live at the Kathedral ** - I'm sure someone has played a worst set at some point in history.. Not sure if that's comforting. |
| Good and Beautiful *** - A pretty good tune, but we never played it live, unfortunately. Ohms Demo 06 | Revolution *** - Same case as above. It think we were sort of rushing it trying to get six song done in 2 days. Ohms EP 06 | The One Contender and Tame Live at the Kathedral **** - This one is worth it for the Pixies cover. Start the tape at around the 5min mark for optimal listening. |
| Hemispheres **** - I like this one, and it was fun to play live, as well. Paul's guitar effects are rad. Ohms Demo 07. | ||
| Revolution *** - A lot of people dig this one. It's starting to feel a little dated, though.. Ohms Demo 08 | ||
| Random Demos and other oddities | ||
| Teachers & Preachers demo *** - This is a rough take on a rocking song that we never seemed to perfect live or in studio. Might be better than ep version due to sheer rockingness. | JKG demo ** - Another very rought version without vocals, but you get a feel for where the song will eventually end up. Part of the cd we sent to Noel and Steve (the producers/recording engineers). | The One Contender demo ** - A very long and drawn out version of the song.. We actually jammed this live in the living room. I'm on acoustic which is drowned out most of the time. This one takes a while to download. |
| The Ohms Rehersal *** - Very big file (22 minutes) but interesting for it's archival nature. Just a bunch of Ohms hanging out in Hamilton doing their Ohms thing. Cheers! | ||
Other recordings
All the track with at least 3 of the 4 Ohms are in the Ohms section
These are mostly, but not exclusively, Steve solo tracks
| Do You Know What I am Saying? ***** - This has got to be one of my favourite tracks that I've penned. Rage on, Steve. | Airport Line *** - A nice little pop song. It's got this chorus that I'm not too fond of, but other than that, it's alright. | Around the Corner (aka Glenn's Punk Tune) *** - Good punk tune. Glenn sings the chorus, I rage out on the verses. | Babylon **** - First version of the soon to be classic tune. Vocals are a little flat. |
| Oxtail (Output13) ** - This is a crazy psycho tune by Paul and I. The LC was getting rid of this high strength energy drink for way too cheap - you can almost taste the cheap booze by listening to the track. | Dance around in your Bones ***** - Paul and I wrote and recorded this tune for a friend's independent film. It was really fun to write for a film. Here are earlier WIP versions: demo 1 - demo 2 and a different final version: version 2 | There you go (acoustic demo) ** - This one could have been another great Ohms rock song, but unfortunately, we never got around to it. Here is another version: Solo Bass Guitar | Greatest Mistake *** - I like this tune. Odd timing in the verses mixed with a pop chorus. If the vox and production were better it'd be a much more solid track. |
| Say that you are my girl *** - Not a bad tune, but again, it seems to annoy me a little bit somehow. The mandolin sounds 'aight. So does the digital xylophone. | You are the Instigator **** - Another Steve/Glenn collaberation that turned out well. Would you have guessed that my distorted guitar is actually an acoustic? | Perseverance *** - I wrote this song after finally fixing my computer in Korea. I was going crazy, so I celebrated by recording a tune using an online rhyming dictionary. | Highway to Home *** - Laura and Steve duet. The production blows, but it still has its charm thanks to Laura's wonderful voice. |
| Drum(machine) and Bass? * - I used to love my uncle's old drum machine, but this is what happens when things go wrong. But I can't blame the machine - it probably has more to do with my weak bass playing. | Interlude (demo) *** - A version of the Ohms demo interlude that I was making for an album similar to the present project that never got finished. | Emancipated (demo) ** - This is pretty much the same song as track 1 from the somnabulist album. Earlier version with a different intro. | Above the Dragonflies (demo) *** - Early version of this tune without vocals. Here is another version: 2 guitar version |
| SHS10 **** - Named after my Yamaha Key-tar. My favorite Korean bartender used to throw this track on as a 'welcome Steve' soundtrack. Aren't I special. | Maybe I should make some Friends *** - This is a tongue-in-cheek pop song about being a loner in Daegu. | Hanel Buk *** - A song that I wrote for Hyun Soo, the Korean barkeep, but never ended up sending it to him. For the record, No-lo Ka-ja means 'Lets go have fun!' | Everyday (demo) ** - Laura has a beaitiful voice and sings this one so well. Too bad my drunken production was off again. |
| Organ Music ** - This is my first full tune on the organ (no vocals, mind you). It's alright. | Once or Twice Before *** - If this song wasn't so quiet, it'd be much better. This is the first song I wrote and recorded in Korea. | The Marsist *** - Glenn and I made this cover for a compilation on FrankBlack.net. We didn't win the prize, but it was fun making it. | I Won't Let You Go ** - I had no voice when I was recording this demo, so I just whistled instead. |
| Mountain Rock *** - A nice tune that just keeps building and building. I don't know what I'm singing about - straight improv as usual. | Eukelele riff * - It's cute and fun, so here it is. Not promising fireworks here, just a little diddy. | Glenn VS the Drum Machine ** - This is a fun little battle between man and machine. You guess who wins.. | Spaceheads techno ** - A song inspired by the late great band, the spaceheads. I recommend checking them out if you have a chance. |
| Cry **** - I called this one the sad instrumental in the acoustic album section. Both titles work. It is a very emotive song indeed. | I feel like Shit today (demo) *** - An early version of this tune about waking up hung over and depressed. | Digging Up Bones (demo) *** - Wow, I have too many versions of this song. Which do you like best? | Iggy Pop Rock *** - Not sure what to call this half-written rocker. If I get around to writing a decent bridge and good vocals, it might be alright. The keys sound awesome on this one. |
| Not a Test! *** - This is an old school drum machine techno track. And remember, this is not a test! | Move On ** - This has to be one of my oldest songs written for the acoustic guitar. The boys at my unversity house used to love it. | Just my Pluck *** - Lame name for a tune, but do you have any better idea? Very chilled acoustic song. | Matty Mix ** - This is Paul doing his thing with that crazy box called the Line 6 Filter Modeller. I'm on drums. |
| Another Rock Song ** - This is another one of them guitar songs that I never ended up writing lyrics or a melody for. Regardless, it lives! | Bass Lick * - Just a quick little bass lick for those of you like that kind of thing. | Olympius **** - Cousin Chris wrote the techno stuff on fruity loops, and I took care of the bass duties. A fine (four star!) collaberation indeed. | Weirdo * - A weird little dual acoustic guitar loop. 'nough said. |
| Dentist *** - This track features Glenn, the Drum Machine, and a Drill. What could possibly go wrong? | 4LMac (demo) ** - This is my first try at song 10 from the acoustic album. I hope it turn out alright in the end. Lyrics are my least favourite thing about writing tunes. | Machine Mix * - All hail the drum machine! This track is just the machine.. but about 3 or 4 tracks of it, if you can believe it. | Yet Another Rock Song ** - Again, unfinished and all that, but it is archived here. Sounds like it has potential though. |
| Dual Guitar Attack **** - I never did much with this song, but for an instrumental, it seriously rocks! | Rock Output *** - This track features myself, Chris C and Harmen doing a little jamming in Hamilton. I added the effects after the fact. | What did the Spider Do? * - Just a little diddy about spider and shoes that I wrote. | Drum Machine and Glenn *** - Glenn has himself a phat lick here. And the machine holds up it's end as well. |
| Sacred Things (demo) *** - Another song that'll be on my next album. This song is sometimes called 'bounty on my soul', for obvious reasons. | Tame ** - This is an incomplete cover of the Pixies song by me, Glenn, and the drum machine. No vocals, unfortunatley. | Arab on Bass * - Just a little bass riff that has that middle eastern feel to it, somehow. | KaNaDaRa ***** - This is not my song. But, it is my favourite Korean song of all time! The title translates as "A, B, C, D". Check this bad boy out! |
